Short Bio

Filothei Pappa holds a PhD from the Physics Department, National Technical University of Athens, in collaboration with the Institute of Oceanography at the Hellenic Centre for Marine Research. She has received her BSc in Physics and MSc in Applied Physics from the National Technical University of Athens. During her Ph.D. and postdoc work she participated in many European projects (e.g. BlackSeaHazNet, 12CHN212, ANAVALOS). She has experience on gamma-ray spectrometry and X-Ray Fluoresence Spectrometry in marine samples. She attended a training activity for 3 months in the Belgian Nuclear Research Centre (experimental determination of the sediment-water distribution coefficient (Kd), solving advection-dispersion equations, applying the ERICA Tool on the estimation of the radiological risk to non-human biota), and a number of national and international conferences. Her research activities focus on Environmental Radioactivity and on Instrumentation and techniques on Nuclear Physics applications, with specialization in gamma-ray spectrometry (HPGe, NaI(Tl), CeBr3), 137Cs pre-concentration techniques, radioecology and dosimetry. Today, she works as an external collaborator at the Department of Environment in the University of the Aegean carrying out studies regarding natural radioactivity.
